Springing into step

Its hard to believe Spring is almost over and it’s been two months since we shot a short documentary for our friends at Yorkshire Dance that follows the behind the scenes journey of 6 young dancers as they partake in the regional youth dance showcase FRESH.

On Sat 1st April our team of 3 filmmakers and 1 production assistant descended on Leeds city centre armed with our trusty film kit, a shed load of batteries, SD Cards and coffee for what was to be an epic 15hr shoot.

Youth Dance

FRESH involved 20 youth dance groups comprising of hundreds of young people from across the Yorkshire region. A wide range of dance styles including contemporary, street, Hip Hop, Irish and Tap dance were performed to sell out audiences at both West Yorkshire Playhouse and Yorkshire Dance.

Each of our filmmakers followed a chosen 2 dance groups and filmed them as they travelled between the 3 main venues Yorkshire Dance, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Northern Ballet as they rehearsed their own dance pieces for the evenings main performances. Despite the complex challenge of filming interviews, pieces to camera, performances and b-roll at such a busy event we loved the whole experience and had the privilege of witnessing amazing youth dance talent on their journey through dance.

The bods at Yorkshire Dance love the final film which has so far clocked over 7k Facebook views.

Here’s the end result . . let us know what you think.

We’ve done away with our newsletter and have launched our all new Blog instead so look out for regular posts about our ongoing projects, client features, media stuff and all things weird and wonderful in the world of pocket projects.
